Eastside Baby Corner has been selected as the October community service project for the United We Serve Program sponsored by Seattle Sounders and Seattle Bank.

Seattle Sounders players, along with Seattle Bank employees and a few fans will help sort donated winter clothing for children in need at a special volunteer event from 2-5 p.m. Oct. 20 at the center’s warehouse, 1510 NW Maple St., Issaquah.

The volunteer assistance from programs such as United We Serve are a tremendous asset, center officials say, as nearly 40,000 items are donated, purchased, sorted and distributed annually, free of charge, to local families and children. Eastside Baby Corner relies on almost 1,000 volunteer hours a month to ensure the basic needs of children and the local family-assistance providers addressed.

“We are very excited to be selected for the United We Serve program,” said Karen Redline, Eastside Baby Corner Founder and Executive Director. “It’s a fantastic way to get the local community involved with non-profits making a difference.”

The United We Serve community enhancement program chooses seven organizations chosen a year with which to work.
