The spring installment of the Issaquah History Museums’ history program series will feature Museum Director Erica S. Maniez, who will share the story of the Issaquah Alpines, Issaquah’s semi-pro football team.

The football team was first organized in 1933 as the Issaquah Firemen. When the manager of the Alpine Dairy, Hans Forster, donated new uniforms, the team changed their name to the Issaquah Alpines in recognition of their patron.

Between 1933 and 1941, the Alpines were the Commercial League Champions seven years out of nine. The Alpines have been called “one of the nation’s most dominant football teams in semi-professional history.” They still hold the highest ratio of games won to games lost among all regional teams. The Alpines were active until the early 1950s.

The presentation will begin at 11 a.m. April 9 at the Issaquah Depot, 50 Rainier Blvd. N.

History programs are free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
