Teen injured in bicycle vs. truck accident in Sammamish

A 16-year-old male was seriously injured in a bicycle vs. truck accident Wednesday in Sammamish.

A 16-year-old male was seriously injured in a bicycle vs. truck accident Wednesday in Sammamish.

Witnesses reported the 16-year-old was riding his bicycle southbound on 228th Avenue Southeast near Discovery Elementary. The teen was on the east side of the road and on a bike path when he lost control of his bicycle and went into oncoming northbound traffic.

The teen struck the right rear of a box truck that was headed northbound. The teen was taken to Overlake Hospital. Police reported it appeared he had suffered a broken arm and leg.

The accident closed down northbound traffic on 228th Avenue Southeast between Southeast 20th Street and Southeast 24th Street for at least two hours due to the investigation, with the northbound traffic expected to re-open at 6:30 p.m. No alcohol or drugs were suspected on either the bike rider or the truck driver.
