Thieves nab $20,000 in jewelry from Sammamish home | Police blotter

A Sammamish man called police Jan. 11 to report the theft of nearly $20,000 in jewelry from his home.

The following information was compiled from the City of Sammamish police reports:

A Sammamish man called police Jan. 11 to report the theft of nearly $20,000 in jewelry from his home.

The man said he noticed the items were missing shortly after construction work was done on his home in late November.

The caller said he doesn’t believe his home was broken into and suspects the work crew. The family delayed reporting the incident because of extensive travel plans for work and holiday, as well as extended illnesses.

Thieves reportedly took five items, including a diamond ring valued at $8,000 and a bracelet valued at $5,000.

BELLIGERENCE

Police were called Jan. 12 to assist medics in dealing with a 65-year-old intoxicated Sammamish man who was yelling and cussing at his wife and aid crew.

The man fell down the stairs in his home and hit his head, but refused medical aid.

Medics said the man would need up to 40 stitches to close the wound. The man was too drunk to stand on his own, but continued his angry behavior swearing at everyone around.

SOLICITOR

A Sammamish man called police Jan. 5 to report a suspicious male coming to his home in the 19000 block of Northeast 51st Street and trying to sell automotive services.

The caller said the solicitor came to his door and said that someone in his neighborhood had canceled a job and he was looking for additional work. The caller said the man’s discounted rate was too good to be true and the solicitor couldn’t produce any material proving he worked for the business he claimed to be a part of.

The caller also said it was odd the man could see the damage on his car as it wasn’t visible from the street.

GRAFFITI

Police discovered numerous acts of graffiti in the 2400 block of 228th Avenue Southeast on Jan. 10. An “end of school zone” sign had been painted over with red spray paint.

A utility box had also been painted over with red paint as well as a city-owned garage door. The symbol appeared to be a reversed “S” with a crown on top.

BRAZEN THEIF

A home owner in the 21000 block of Southeast 32nd Place called Sammamish police Jan. 8 to report the theft of a package.

The caller said he watched a man approach his house. He yelled at the man, who responded with “what?” The home owner then watched the man run to his front porch, grab the package and take off in his car.
