Tonight, the Issaquah City Council will hold two public hearings at its regular meeting, concerning the vacation of a portion of Southeast 68th Place and whether the city should support a King County property tax levy that will appear on the ballot in the April 28 special election.

The street vacation, which would involve 10,130 square feet of roadway, comes in response to a petitioned request from RBL LLC and Lakeside Industries to buy the right of way from the city. The council agenda anticipates a vote following the public hearing. If approved, the city stands to make up to $203,000 from the sale.

Southeast 68th Place presently leads into a commercial retail and office center west of East Lake Sammamish Parkway Southeast and just north of Interstate 90. The road dead-ends within the center.

The property tax hearing concerns whether the city should support a $0.07 per $1,000 levy on assessed home value for the funding of an upgraded regional emergency radio network for dispatching police, fire personnel and other emergency services.

The King County Council recently passed an ordinance to place the proposed levy on the ballot of the April 28 special election.

According to a county presentation regarding the radio system, the current network requires increasing repairs and will no longer be supported as of Jan. 1, 2019.

The council is expected to vote on a resolution to support or not support the levy following the public hearing.
