Earlier this month Discovery Elementary School held their annual fundraising Walk-a-thon, which helps the school’s PTSA continue to fund important support services such as Art Docents, the Eager Math, and Eager Reader programs, cultural arts, environmental and math clubs and teacher grants.

The goal of the PTSA is to raise $40,000 in support of the school, and thanks to the great success of the Walk-a-thon, they are closer to reaching that.

During the event, students, parents and siblings walked and participated in other activities, including an auction.

The theme for the Walk-a-thon this year was: “Children of the world: United we walk.”

Co-president of the Discovery PTSA Shelly Russell said it was a very successful event.

“The kids are having fun, and it is all about that. We ordered great weather!”

Dennis Robbins, a parent and a basketball coach, said that as well as raising much-needed money for the school, the Walk-a-thon had other positive effects.

“It teaches the kids exercise – a healthy thing to do.”
