Experiences, not objects, are being collected for the fundraising portion of the Perspectives on Autism Day events at Eastside Catholic on Saturday, April 26.
April is Autism Awareness Month. The evening program at Eastside Catholic was coordinated to compliment the Third Annual Autism Acceptance Video Game Tournament at Bellevue College, beginning on the same day as the auction.
“The programs being planned at BC in the morning and at Eastside Catholic that afternoon have been created to be both practical and engaging for parents, caregivers and for young people on the spectrum of autism,” explained Lynne Banki, the founder of Autism Day Washington. “We want the items in our auction to be equally unique and engaging.”
Banki said shadowing professionals in the workplace and outdoor adventures are the type of experiences she would like to see auctioned during the Perspectives event next month. She also would like to see pieces of original artwork and educational experiences, such as admission to local museums, donated to help support parents and young people on the Eastside who live with the reality of autism every day.
The video game tournament at Bellevue College is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., with the Perspectives program following at Eastside Catholic School. It will conclude no later than 8 p.m.
