The graduating class of 2012 was marked Monday by their kindness and dedication to volunteerism.

It’s been one of those classes that teachers have deeply enjoyed through the years, said Superintendent Steve Rasmussen. “They’re a caring group.”

Students at Issaquah High School fundraised for Seattle Children’s Hospital, food banks, the Issaquah Schools Foundation, Relay for Life and the Eastside Domestic Violence program.

“You’ve made it a goal to give extravagantly to your school this year,” said Principal Paula Phelps. “Thank you for your passion and community spirit.”

Phelps also recognized the NJROTC, a program that will end this year from lacking enrollment.

About 500 students participated in the commencement ceremonies at Safeco Field.
