Women’s March supporters huddle in Sammamish

Following the successful Women’s March in Seattle and many other cities around the globe on Jan. 21, small local “huddles” of Women’s March supporters are being set up across the country.

A group from Sammamish met for the first time at the Sammamish Library on Feb. 11. The advocates intend to take action to ensure that local politicians are aware of the group’s progressive agenda and to counter what it sees as the injustice of the new Trump administration’s policies on topics such as immigration, the environment and education.

The Sammamish group especially wants to have dialogue with Rep. Dave Reichert, Congressman for the 8th Congressional District, about the repeal and replacement of the Affordable Care Act.

“A huge amount of positive energy came from the Women’s March in January,” said Summer Montacute, the convenor of the meeting, “and we want to build on that. It’s amazing the number of people who now want to get involved and resist the Trump agenda.”

The group intends to meet again at 1 p.m. on March 5 at the Sammamish Library and welcomes new members of all genders.
