Vote yes for Issaquah transportation bond | Letter

As a 32-year resident of the city of Issaquah, I'm writing in support of Issaquah's transportation Proposition 1. For the first time in my memory, the City Council is taking a pro-active approach to resolving some of our most pressing road projects and safety concerns.

As a 32-year resident of the city of Issaquah, I’m writing in support of Issaquah’s transportation Proposition 1. For the first time in my memory, the City Council is taking a pro-active approach to resolving some of our most pressing road projects and safety concerns.

The plan they presented to voters is sensible and cost-effective. It doesn’t impose an overwhelming tax burden, while prioritizing four projects that have been needed for years: signalization at Providence Point, improvements to traffic flow and sight lines along two segments of Newport Way and improvements to traffic flow along Sunset Way heading to and from the Highlands. In addition, the plan would provide safety improvements to intersections and minor roadways throughout the entire city.

With few specifics, critics claim the plan is not perfect because it doesn’t solve all our traffic woes. Because we live in a magnificently beautiful valley bounded by mountains and streams, as well as other government jurisdictions, it might take decades to find solutions for the environmental and inter-governmental challenges of our region. In the meantime, does that mean we can’t do anything to help ourselves keep traffic moving safely?

I love Issaquah because of the energy and can-do spirit of its people. Please vote yes for local Proposition 1 on your November ballot. Let’s get moving, Issaquah!
