Bryant leads by example on the gridiron

Leadership is something that can not be simply defined on the gridiron.

There are typically different types of leaders with a wide array of skill sets. Eastside Catholic senior wide receiver Hunter Bryant, who has already verbally committed to play football for the University of Washington, is one of those players who enjoys leading by example.

Bryant was all business as he explained details and intricacies of the wide receiver position to a youthful player while Bryant partook in reps with the first-team offense during a June spring practice session. The Crusaders, who have won back-to-back state titles (2014, 2015), are determined to win their third straight Class 3A state football championship.

“As a team, we are definitely just excited to see what we can do,” Bryant said. “We’re a really young team and we have a lot of players stepping up. We are going to do some great things this year. I’m just excited to see it happen. We are focused on getting this three-peat.”

The Crusaders will have a new quarterback starting under center for the 2016 season. Harley Kirsch, who is playing football for Cornell University this fall, was the starting quarterback the past four seasons and will be replaced by junior Zach Lewis. Bryant is confident in his new signal caller.

“He is playing great right now,” Bryant said of Lewis. “I don’t think there is going to be any drop-off at the quarterback position. I’m really excited about that.”

Bryant is thrilled about playing college football at UW once his high school career comes to a close.

“It is a great program with a great coaching staff. It is definitely big for me. I’m really excited to be committed,” Bryant said of UW.

Recently, the Issaquah Reporter had an opportunity to ask Bryant a few questions about his life away from the football field:
