Eagles rally to beat Spartans, 12-11

In dramatic fashion, the Issaquah Eagles (4-4) rallied from an 11-point deficit to beat the Skyline Spartans (3-5), 12-11, in their regular season finale on Oct. 25.

The Eagles got on the board in the second quarter courtesy of a 15-yard touchdown pass from Keagan Barnwell to cut the Spartans’ lead to 11-6. Late in the second quarter, lightning caused more than a two-hour delay.

After the extended break, both defenses held strong, keeping either offense from scoring in the third quarter. The Eagles got the ball at the Spartans’ 3-yard line with 20 seconds left in the fourth quarter after Skyline turned the ball over on downs after a failed punt attempt. Issaquah scored a touchdown from 1-yard out to go ahead, 12-11, with four seconds left, its first lead of the game.

The win sets up a loser-out game between the Eagles and the North Creek Jaguars (5-2) at 2:30 p.m. Nov. 2 at Pop Keeney Stadium. The Jaguars beat the Eagles earlier this season, 38-12, on Oct. 18.
