Issaquah led early but surrendered a pair of runs in the top of the seventh in a game against Newport while Eastlake started the KingCo schedule with a shutout of conference contender Redmond.

Sean Tan scored the only goal of the night on an assist from Beni Leremie for Newport in the final minute of the contest to give his team the 1-0 win in the KingCo opener.

“We came out, played hard, kept our composure and were able to prevail in the last seconds,” Newport coach Kirk Tavener said. “I’m extremely proud of the hard work the team has put in this season.”

The Knights overcame an early two-run deficit to win the KingCo opener for both teams behind five innings of work on the mound from Billy Sahlinger and a pair of RBI from Nate Anderson.

Ethan Kalin knocked in a pair of runs for the Eagles, which saw Newport plate a pair of runs in the top half of the seventh and then hang on for the win as Nate Anderson picked up his first save of the year.

Trevor Creek worked one inning to get the win and Justin Vernia, who replaced starter Brandon Mahovlich in the fifth, took the loss for Issaquah.

Josh Barokas got the win for the Wolves and Mason Pierzchaiski had a pair of hits, scored a run and knocked in another as Eastlake blanked the Mustangs.
