While they didn’t finish the season perfect, the Eastlake boys golf team are still champions.
The Wolves outpaced Issaquah by three strokes at Snohomish Golf Course on Tuesday in the 4A KingCo Medalist Tournament, finishing with a team score of 376 behind a team best 34-36-70 from Spencer Weiss and four golfers in the top-15.
Gabe Lysen shot 37-37-74 to finish in a tie for fifth along with four others, including Issaquah’s Zack Overstreet and Taylor Swingle and Skyline’s Kelley Sullivan.
Scott Nielsen fired 36-39-75 and Colby Stirrat carded 77 for the Wolves, while RP McCoy also made the cut to Wednesday’s district tournament.
Barret Dowling’s 76 was also good enough to play for a state spot, while teammates Sid Raman, Tom Rothwell and Dallas Beckwith also finished above the cut line.
For the Spartans, Brian Mogg shot 37-36-73 to lead the way to a fourth place team finish and went to Wednesday’s round along with Sullivan, Michael Butler and younger brother Chris Mogg, fired 39-41-80.
Eastlake lost its first match in three years to Skyline before ending the regular season with a win over Inglemoor. The Wolves are also the defending 4A state champions.
