Top-ranked Eastside Catholic lost a battle of Metro powerhouses on Wednesday night, falling in three games 25-21, 25-19, 25-22 to second-ranked Blanchet in Seattle.

“Blanchet came out on fire and never stopped,” head coach Andrew Ness wrote on his team blog. “They put a lot of pressure on our passers and made life really hard on our hitters.”

The Crusaders were led by Brooke Bachesta’s 11 kills and nine digs, and Cami Silverman’s seven kills and 12 digs. Kameron McLain added four kills and four aces, while Kelsey Miller had 13 assists and Sarah Pancottine had a team-high 14 digs.

The Braves were led by Chloe Sliger’s 32 assists and Summer Nash’s match-high 13 kills.

Eastside Catholic moved to 1-1 in league and 4-1 overall. Blanchet improved to 2-0 in league and 5-0 overall. The two teams square off again, Monday, Oct. 12 on the Plateau.

Skyline earns first win

Skyline earned its first win in five matches on Wednesday night, beating Ballard in three games, 25-19, 25-20, 25-22.

Megan Clark had 19 assists for the Spartans along with five aces. Maddie Magee led Skyline with seven kills. The Spartans moved to 1-1 in league and 1-4 overall with the victory.

Eastlake downs Roosevelt

Eastlake bounced back from a slow start, beating Roosevelt in four games Wednesday night, 21-25, 26-24, 25-14, 28-26.

Mercedes Bass had a match-high 23 assists, while Alyssa Charlston led the Wolves with 12 kills and 10 digs.

Roosevelt’s Sarah O’Connor had a match-high 17 kills. Eastlake moved to 1-1 in league and 2-2 overall with the win.

Issaquah rally falls short

Issaquah nearly battled back from losing its first two games to Woodinville on Wednesday night, but couldn’t quite recover, falling in five games, 25-18, 25-22, 25-16, 25-21, 15-10.

Alyssa Schultz put down an impressive 21 kills for the Eagles, while Riley Sorenson had 49 assists.

Issaquah dropped to 1-1 in league and 1-4 overall with the loss.
