EC headed to state semi-finals, Issaquah and Eastlake dropped | Prep sports news

Updates from the Division I boys state lacrosse tournament.

Crusaders move on behind MacIlvennie

Eastside Catholic marched on in the boys Division I lacrosse state tournament on Thursday, beating visiting King’s Way 14-10 behind four Colin MacIlvennie goals.

The Crusaders trailed 4-3 after the first quarter before exploding for nine goals in the second and third combined. Blake Lee and Jarrett Toy each finished with three goals and an assist for Eastside Catholic in the win.

It will be a familiar foe waiting in the semi-finals in Bellevue, which beat EC in the state title game last year.

That game will be at Bellevue with a 7 p.m. start May 29.

Eastlake downed by Wolverines

The Wolverines got their first taste of playoff action in 2013 against Eastlake on Thursday at home, dispatching the Wolves 15-5.

Hank Bethke and Cole Johnson combined to score 11 goals in the win, as Bellevue led 10-3 at the halftime break and tacked on three more goals in the third period to erase all doubt.

The loss ends the season for the Wolves and head coach Chris O’Daugherty.

Issaquah bounced by Islanders

Mercer Island broke a tie with just more than two minutes remaining in the final period and eliminated Issaquah from the bracket, ending the Eagles’ season with a 6-5 decision in the state quarterfinals.

Matt Thomas scored a pair of goals for Issaquah, which tied the game at 4 heading into the fourth quarter.
