Hurricanes end season with NSA Western World title

The 12U Washington Hurricanes Girls 96' fastpitch softball team completed their 2009 season on July 23 with a win in the NSA Western Worlds Championship 12A competition, edging out teams from Nevada, California, British Columbia and all over Washington.

The 12U Washington Hurricanes Girls 96′ fastpitch softball team completed their 2009 season on July 23 with a win in the NSA Western Worlds Championship 12A competition, edging out teams from Nevada, California, British Columbia and all over Washington.

The tournament was held throughout Snohomish County, with participating teams ranging from 10U to 18U. Opening ceremonies were in Everett on Sunday, July 19, with pool play the following two days and a double elimination bracket following.

The Hurricanes went undefeated in pool play, and edged Washington Angels, a Kennewick-based team, for the championship. The Hurricanes traded leads with the Angels, before beating them 5-4 for the title.

Coached by Bob Bakker, Mike Meyers, Dan Taketa and Rob Stevens, all volunteer parents, the team consists of girls from Sammamish, Redmond, Bellevue, Kirkland, Woodinville and North Bend. The Hurricanes finished the season with a 50-8-2 record. They won the ASA Seattle-Tacoma Metro Championship as well as the Hartman Invitational Championship, the SnoCo Awards Invitational Championship in Lynnwood, the Sidewinder Spring Invitational in Tacoma, and the NSA Western Worlds Spring Qualifier in Marysville.
