Issaquah area golfers swing away at 3A/4A state championships

Issaquah senior Brittany Tallman’s attempt at a third state golf championship came up just shy at Bellingham’s Shuksan Golf Course on May 21.

Tallman, who ended the first day of the class 3A tournament tied for first place, finished third after shooting a 74-79-153. Kristin Tan of Holy Names Academy won the tournament, shooting a 74-74-148. Stephanie Corey of Mt. Rainier shot a 75-76-151 for second.

Tallman won state titles as a freshman and junior.

Eastlake had two girls place May 21 in the 4A state tournament at Sudden Valley Golf Course in Bellingham.

Alex Taylor finished in a three-way tie for 11th place, shooting an 83-86-169. Stephanie Schoof finished in 23rd place, shooting 88-88-176. The duo netted Eastlake 46.5 team points, placing the Wolves eighth overall.

Boys golf

Eastlake junior Kevin Penner, who won the class 4A state title as a sophomore, finished in a three-way tie for third May 21 at Avalon Golf Course in Burlington.

Penner shot a 73-75-148, tied with Dylan Goodwin of Kamiak and Ricky McDonald of Edmonds-Woodway. Reid Martin of Kamiak won the tournament with a 70-72-142.

Skyline’s Jake Webb battled back from a rough first day at the class 3A tournament at Bellingham Country Club to finish in a tie for 11th. Webb shot a 78 the first day, then a 70 on day two. Issaquah’s Kevin Moon placed 28th, shooting 77-78-155.
