Issaquah, Eastside Catholic boys in Regional round, Eastlake girls fall | Prep basketball news

Updates on the Regional round pairings and district tournament finishes.

Issaquah lost to Garfield 83-65 Friday in the 4A KingCo boys basketball championship game, and will take the second seed from the district to the Regional round.

The Eagles face third-seeded Bellarmine Prep at Puyallup High School Feb. 28 at 8 p.m. for a spot in the 4A quarterfinals in the Tacoma Dome.

Eastside Catholic lost to Rainier Beach for the third time on the year, 78-38 Saturday at Bellevue College in the Sea-King district boys basketball title game, and will take the second seed to the 3A Regional round.

The Crusaders, which nearly pulled off the upset of the nationally-ranked Vikings a week earlier in the Metro League championship, will make only the school’s third appearance in the round of 16 when they take the court this week, and the first since 1999.

Eastside Catholic will remain at Bellevue College for the 3A Regional round, with a 6 p.m. game Feb. 28 against Timberline for a spot in the state quarterfinals.

Eastlake girls fall in play-in game

Eastlake was unable to punch its Regional ticket in 4A girls basketball, falling to Edmonds-Woodway 66-65 in the district play-in game.

The Lady Wolves, which beat Woodinville to finish third in the KingCo tournament, held a late lead against the Warriors in a back-and-forth affair before ending the season in heartbreaking fashion.
