Issaquah girls season comes to an end with 64-61 loss to Eastlake

The Eastlake girls basketball team will live to play another day. The Wolves, who carried a double-digit lead in the third quarter of Thursday's loser-out KingCo 4A playoff game, fended off a ferocious Issaquah rally to beat the Eagles 64-61.

The Wolves, who carried a double-digit lead in the third quarter of Thursday’s loser-out KingCo 4A playoff game, fended off a ferocious Issaquah rally to beat the Eagles 64-61.

A pair of Sam Naluai free throws with 7 seconds left gave Eastlake a three-point cushion. Issaquah’s last effort to tie came up short.

The Wolves led 39-28 with just over 4 minutes left in the third quarter before the Eagles went on a 27-14 run to take a 55-54 lead with 2 minutes remaining.

Eastlake grabbed the lead with a minute remaining, and held on down the stretch.

Lauren Files and Abby Carlson led the Wolves with 12 points apiece. Kendra Morrison and Caleigh McCabe scored 11 apiece and Naluai had nine.

Eastlake (21-3) will host the WesCo No. 3 team – either Edmonds-Woodway (20-4) or Marysville-Pilchuck (15-8) on Tuesday, Feb. 22 in a winner-to-state game. Those two teams play Saturday in a loser-out game.

Issaquah was led by junior Sabrina Norton’s 19 points. Senior Maddey Pflaumer scored 18 in her final game. The Eagles ended their season with a 17-7 record. They will miss the state tournament for just the the second time since 2004.
