Issaquah grapplers nab third in league tourney

Issaquah produced three league champions and finished third as a team at the KingCo 4A meet Saturday at Juanita High School. The Eagles earned 188 points, finishing behind Woodinville (254) and Inglemoor (195).

Dalton Baunsgard (112 pounds), Ben Tickman (130) and Jon White (160) all won individual championships for Issaquah, sealing top seeds at this Saturday’s Region II tournament at Todd Beamer High School. Baunsgard beat Eastlake’s Adam Nakanishi in a 6-4 decision, Tickman pinned teammate Sean Novak in the second round and White earned a 5-2 decision over teammate Jacob Borin. The Eagles are sending seven more athletes to the regional tournament including second-place finishers Jordan Tanner (125), Novak (130) and Borin (160); third-place finishers Ty Morton (112), David White (135) and Dan Bressler (285) and fourth-place finisher Tyler Volk (171).

Spartans advance eight

Skyline took seventh place at the KingCo 4A meet with 118 points. Anthony DeMatteo (189) finished second, losing a close 11-10 decision to Inglemoor’s Michael Lambert. Third-place finishers Nolan Richards (130) and Danny Christianson (152); fourth-place finishers Christian Caldwell (112) and Larson Caldwell (152) and fifth-place finishers Jared Kiss (103), Jo Tono (112) and Joey Lim (119) rounded out a field of eight Spartan wrestlers going to state. Alexis Willcher took first at 140 in her sub-regional match and will compete at the regional tournament this Saturday at Liberty High School.

Wolves send three to regionals

Eastlake finished ninth in the 12-team KingCo 4A meet with 87.5 points, just one point behind Newport.

The Wolves had three wrestlers move on to this Saturday’s Region II tournament. Adam Nakanishi (112) placed second, losing a 6-4 decision to Issaquah’s Dalton Baunsgard. Max Benjamin (103) finished in third place and Sam Boucher (145) was fourth.

Eastside Catholic takes third

Eastside Catholic finished third in the Metro 3A championships Saturday, competing as the host school.

The Crusaders earned 156.5 points, finishing behind O’Dea (238.5) and Chief Sealth (158). CJ Danforth claimed a league championship at 112 pounds with a 6-2 decision over Blanchett’s Jeff Payo. AJ Hostak pinned O’Dea’s PJ Pelligrini to earn a Metro championship at 130 pounds. Ian Smith (125) and Connell Totten (215) nabbed second place finishes, and Connor Burns (103) and Anthony Roy (145) finished fourth. The Sea-King District tournament takes place this Saturday at Bainbridge.
