Issaquah wrestlers earn seven pins in win over Newport

Issaquah's senior wrestlers went out with a bang Tuesday night, thumping Newport 64-15 in their final home match of the season.

The Eagles recorded seven pins on the evening, adding a major decision and three forfeits.

Senior Daniel Fine started things off at 189 pounds. After trailing, then suffering a cramp, Fine battled back to pin Hunter Grief with 56 seconds left in the second round.

Sophomores Matt Solusod and Jonathan Norris followed with pins of their own.

Solusod pinned Austin Curtis 53 seconds into the first round, while Norris took down Taylor Shimoji 38 seconds into the first round.

The Eagles continued their barrage of pins between 130 and 152 pounds.

Sophomore Jerdon Helgeson (130) pinned Conor Adams 1 minute, 28 seconds into the first round; junior Almen Thorpe (135) pinned Steve Heo in 29 seconds; senior David White (145) pinned Sean Burke a minute into the second round and senior Cody Duke (152) pinned Tommy Mirante with 34 seconds left in the second round.

Junior Andrew Ramirez also picked up a victory for Issaquah. After falling behind 2-0, he battled back to earn a 12-2 major decision over Nick Lifshaz.

Senior San Novak (140), junior Max Tickman (112) and freshman Thomas Tseng (119) all earned victories via forfeit.

The Eagles close the regular season out this Thursday with a double dual meet against Liberty and Mount Si in Snoqualmie.

The KingCo tournament runs Feb. 4-5 at Juanita High School.

Skyline rolls over Newport

Skyline defeated Newport 56-15 Tuesday night in a makeup match at Issaquah High.

The Spartans earned five pins. Sean McAlhaney (189) pinned Hunter Greif in 3:35, Jerred Kiss (125) pinned Andres Ophus in 1:23, Collin Ehret (130) pinned Conner Adams in 2:55, Christian Caldwell pinned Sean Burke in 3:00 and Jordan McCaslin pinned Tommy Mirante in 3:12.

Joseph DeMatteo (103) earned a 12-1 major decision over David Yingling and Ian Crouch (160) earned a 9-1 major decision over Ick Fifshaz.
