Lakeside baseball splits tournament with 3 wins, 3 losses

The Lakeside Senior Legion Baseball Club went 3-3 at the So Cal Best of the Best tournament June 24-27.

The Lakeside Senior Legion Baseball Club went 3-3 at the So Cal Best of the Best tournament June 24-27.

The team kicked off the tournament with a 4-2 loss to San Diego Show, but rebounded to win their second game against the San Diego Gamers 3-2.

Lakeside then lost to West Oahu American 8-3, before rallying to beat the San Diego Dirtbags 7-3 on June 26, and Team San Diego 6-1 the next day. In their final game Lakeside (10-11) lost to Arroyo Seco Saints 5-4.

Lakeside gave up two early runs in the first inning and trailed 3-0 before storming back with four runs in the top of the fifth to take the lead.

They couldn’t hold the lead, however, as the Saints tied the game in the bottom of the fifth and won with a walk-off run in the bottom of the seventh.

Brandon Mahovlich took the loss for Lakeside. Spencer Rogers went 1-2 with two walks while Newport’s Dan Spray also went 1 for 2.

The team played Wednesday and Thursday in the first two games of the Curt Daniels Memorial Tournament in Portland, Ore. Results of those games were not available as of The Reporter deadline.
