Lakeside takes three in Portland, preps for Brandy Pugh Memorial tourney

The Lakeside Recovery Senior Legion baseball club finished with a 3-2 record at the Curt Daniels Memorial Tournament in Portland, Ore., losing to the Federal Way Buzz 9-8 in their final game of the tournament, held at the University of Portland.

Lakeside started off the tournament by losing in 31-22 in an absolute slugfest against the Medford Mustangs. The team then rebounded to win three-straight, beating C&H Baseball 17-3, Portland Baseball 12-9 and the Rips Brewers 12-5.

In the tournament’s final game, Lakeside fell behind 7-2 in the fourth inning before rallying for four runs in the top of the fifth. But Federal Way scored two in the bottom of the inning to help fend off another Lakeside run in the top of the sixth.

Lakeside’s Peyton Harrod took the loss, allowing two runs in four innings of work. The team was led offensively by Issaquah’s Spencer Rogers, who went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI. Former IHS and current Columbia Basin Community College player Mario Sanelli went 2-for-4 and scored three runs in the game. Sanelli was 11-for-17 with a home run for the tournament.

Lakeside opened up play in the Brandy Pugh Memorial Tournament — its annual home tournament at Bannerwood Park — Wednesday against Bellevue Honda.

The tournament continues through the weekend. Lakeside faced the Twin City Titans last night and square off against the Kennewick Bandits at 8 p.m, today.

Saturday will see the team play the Vancouver Cardinals at 8 p.m. Sunday the team plays LC Red Lion at Bellevue College at 2 p.m.

Championship day is Monday at Bannerwood.
