Local athlete, Houck, takes Issaquah Triathlon

Issaquah resident Jason Houck, 33, brought home the top prize in the 11th annual Issaquah Triathlon Saturday morning at Lake Sammamish Park.

Issaquah resident Jason Houck, 33, brought home the top prize in the 11th annual Issaquah Triathlon Saturday morning at Lake Sammamish Park.

Houck finished the 1/4-mile swim, 15-mile bike course and 3-mile cross country run in 1 hour, 2 minutes, 50 seconds — just ahead of Seattle’s Tony Gerbino (1:04:08).

Sammamish resident Drew Magill, 45, finished the 374-man field in sixth place in a time of 1:05:22.

On the women’s side, Issaquah’s Judy Coyle, 33, finished fourth overall in a time of 1:13:43. Kirkland’s Patty Bredice won the race in 1:12:24.

Issaquah’s Gina Estep placed eighth overall in the 167-woman field, finishing in 1:16:36.

In all, there were just shy of 800 competitors in Saturday’s event, which also featured a duathlon, 10K, 5K, relay and kids triathlon.

Event proceeds will fund books, computers, sports education and scholarships for low-income students at Arbor Schools in Sammamish.
