Nesis, 16 others, move on to National Gynmastics Championships

Local gymnast Jessica Nesis, a student at Issaquah's Pacific Cascade Freshman Campus, won the 15-year-old level 9 Regional title last weekend at the Pacific Northwest Regional Championships in Auburn.

Local gymnast Jessica Nesis, a student at Issaquah’s Pacific Cascade Freshman Campus, won the 15-year-old level 9 Regional title last weekend at the Pacific Northwest Regional Championships in Auburn.

Nesis, who competes as a member of Gymnastics East, placed first in all-around with a score of 37.175. She took first on vault with a score of 9.525, first on floor exercise with a score of 9.425 and first on bars with a score of 9.325. Her performance netted her a trip to Level 9 National Championships later this month.

Several other Gymnastics East athletes also battled their way to the National Championships, including three more from the Issaquah-Sammamish region.

Alexis Brown a 13-year-old Beaver Lake Middle School student placed first in all-around with a score of 37.075. She earned first on floor with a 9.45, first on the beam with a 9.55 and second on the bars with an 8.85.

Emma Fitzgerald, a 13-year-old student at Pine Lake Middle School, took second in Level 9 all-around with a 37.15 and second on bars with 9.125.

Allison Northey, 15-year-old, who attends Skyline High School, took first on the Level 10 vault with a 9.475.

Fourteen other Gymnastics East members, coming from Bellevue all the way from Mountlake Terrace, also advanced to their respective national championships.

Last weekend’s regional event was held by the USA Gymnastics Association and featured 389 girls from six states including Alaska, Hawaii, Oregon, Montana, Idaho and Washington.

The Level 9 National Championships take place in Des Moines, Iowa at the end of April and the Level 10 National Championships take place in Dallas, Texas at the beginning of May.
