After losing four-straight games, the Lakeside Recovery Senior Legion baseball club, made up of Newport, Issaquah and Skyline players, split a pair of doubleheaders against the Pilots baseball club last weekend.

Lakeside, which had lost four games in a row, started off the weekend by trouncing the Skagit Sox 14-0 on June 26 at Skagit Valley Community College before returning to take on the Pilots. They couldn’t keep their momentum however, falling to the Pilots 7-5 and 9-4 on Saturday in the doubleheader at Newport High School.

The next day’s venue change proved to be great for Lakeside, as they won the day’s first game 5-4, as Newport’s Kevon Zadeh singled in the winning run in the bottom of the seventh. Lakeside was led in the game offensively by Issaquah’s Spencer Rogers, who went 3 for 4 with a home run and two RBI and Colin Hering, who went 2 for 2. Newport sophomore Jared Fisher picked up the win for Lakeside.

Game two saw Lakeside fall behind 7-5 in the top of the final inning, only to score three runs in the bottom of the seventh for another walk-off win.

Rogers again led Lakeside, this time chipping in two doubles, an RBI and scoring two runs. Skyline’s Ryan Somers went 2 for 4 with two RBI and his Spartan teammate Sean Penberthy hit a home run.

Lakeside will take part in the Curt Daniels Memorial Tournament from July 2-7.
