Eastlake girls defend home track

The Eastlake girls track and field team captured first place Saturday afternoon, taking first in the second annual Eastlake Invitational.

The Wolves earned 132 team points, finishing ahead of Gig Harbor (121.75) and Bellarmine Prep (69). Eastlake had five first-place finishes. Senior Julia Bicknell won the high jump clearing 5 feet, while senior Alyssa Bettinger grabbed first place in the pole vault, going 8 feet, 6 inches. Junior Chelsea Orr and sophomore Katelyn Steen won the 1,600 and 3,200, respectively. Orr crossed the finish line in 5 minutes, 17.87 seconds, while Steen finished in 11:39.77. The 800 relay of Natalie Lambert, Brittany Cooper, Ally Beahan and Ann Heine also finished in first place in a time of 1:52.05.

Wolf boys claim second

The Eastlake boys finished second among 14 teams with 81.5 points. Gig Harbor (102) won the meet, while Bellarmine Prep took third (73.5). Skyline finished fourth with 52.5 points.

The Wolves were led by sophomore Marcus Harewood, who took first in the 200 (22.92) and third in the 100 (11.38). Junior Jeff Sloat also grabbed a first place finish, taking the top spot in the 300 hurdles in 40.10 seconds. The 1,600 relay of Brandon Cole, Paul Kupcis, Keenan Clinch and Patrick Gallagher finished first overall in a time of 3:29.16.

Skyline earned one first-place finish from sophomore Kasen Williams, who lept 43-8 in the triple jump. Junior Alex Lee took second in the 100 (11.33) and 400 (52.15).

SOFTBALL

Spartans down Eagles

Skyline defeated Issaquah 6-3 Tuesday afternoon.

The Spartans erupted for three runs in the bottom of the sixth. Amanda Nemiroff had a two-RBI double, Margo Erwin was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Kalia Jandoc was 1-for-1 with an RBI. Pitcher Lauren Richards earned the win. Kenna Olsen had two RBI for the Eagles. Skyline improved to 1-1 in league and 2-4 overall. Issaquah moved to 1-1 and 3-2.

BASEBALL

Spartans maintain top spot

Behind Sean Penberthy’s 3-for-4, three RBI performance, Skyline defeated Roosevelt 5-4 Tuesday afternoon in Seattle. Ryan Somers also went 4-fo-4, with a run scored. Jared Lemke pitched six innings and Blake Fulgham entered in the bottom of the seventh to earn the win. Skyline is now 7-1 in league and 10-2 overall, atop the KingCo Crest division.

Issaquah loses in extra innings

Issaquah held a 4-1 lead into the fifth inning of Tuesday’s game with Bothell, but couldn’t hang on. The Eagles lost 5-4 to the Cougars in the eighth inning. Spencer Rogers led Issaquah at the plate, going 2-for-4, with two RBI and Brennan Miller was 3-for-4, with two doubles, two runs scored and an RBI. Issaquah moved to 4-4 in league and 5-5 overall.

Eastlake loses close one

Eastlake jumped out to a fast start Tuesday afternoon, but couldn’t hang on against Woodinville. The Wolves pounced on the Falcons for a 5-0 lead after three innings, but Woodinville battled back to tie the game in the fifth, and eventually win, 7-6, in eight innings. Nick Andrews and Michael Russo both had RBI hits for the Wolves, who fell to 2-6 in league and 5-6 overall.
