Sammamish resident helps team to USA junior championship in curling | Community sports news

A Skyline graduate, Evan McAuley can now also call himself a US junior national champion.

Evan McAuley, a Sammamish resident and graduate of Skyline High School, is headed to Switzerland in late February for the curling Junior World Championships after his team from Granite Curling Club in Seattle won the Junior National Curling Championship last week.

The team won 7-5 over a team from Pennsylvania in the championship match to earn its spot in the world championships.

Last week’s US Championships included teams from Minnesota, New York, New Jersey, Wisconsin, Connecticut, North Dakota and Massachusetts.

Team USA will compete in Flims, Switzerland, Feb. 26 thru March 5 for the junior world championship.
