Behind junior Keegan Symmes’ strong performance, the Skyline boys cross country team captured second overall Saturday during the Northwest District cross country meet at Seattle’s Lincoln Park.

Symmes finished the 3.1-mile course in second place, crossing the line in 15 minutes, 46 seconds. Only Ballard’s Alex Browns (15:34) was faster.

The Spartans earned 125 team points, finishing only behind Jackson’s 93. Kamiak (129), Garfield (146) and Redmond (189) rounded out the top five.

Skyline’s Kevin Tidball had the next fastest time for the Spartans, placing 24th in 16:22. Senior Jay Bowlby was 30th, junior Grant Uselman was 33rd and sophomore Joey Nakao was 47th.

The top five teams and top 25 finishers advanced to this weekend’s state meet in Pasco. Eastlake finished 10th overall with 210 points, advancing one runner to state. Senior Michael Flindt placed 15th in 16:10.

Issaquah girls advance to state for first time in 13 years

The Issaquah girls placed fourth on Saturday with 136 team points, becoming the first Eagles’ team in 13 years to qualify for state.

Redmond (72) won, with Snohomish (91) and Jackson (92) placing second and third, respectively. Stanwood secured the fifth and final team state berth with 155 points.

Issaquah was led by senior Rachel Osgood’s 10th place finish. She completed the 3.1-mile race in a lifetime best 19:06.

Freshman Ellie Clawson placed 24th, freshman Cayla Seligman was 28th, freshman Ellie Hendrickson was 40th, freshman Abby Wilson was 41st and freshman Emily Winterstein was 44th.

Skyline missed qualifying as a team by one position, finishing in sixth with 165 points. Sophomore Samantha Krahling qualified for state with a 12th-place finish in 19:17.

Eastlake, which was missing its top runner Anastasia Kosykh due to a back injury, placed 10th with 218 points. Senior Morgan O’Connor qualified for state with a ninth-place finish in a time of 19:05.
