Skyline cheer teams nab two second-place finishes at state

The Skyline cheer team nearly matched the football team’s three-peat performance this past weekend at the state cheerleading. championships, coming up a few points shy in two classifications.

The Spartans, who won 2008 WIAA Large Varsity title and the 2009 WIAA Large/Super Large Varsity title, finished second in the Small Coed division and second in the Non Tumbling division at the Everett Comcast Arena.

Skyline’s Green team earned 200 points in the Small Coed competition, finishing only behind Kentwood Silver (219).

The Spartan Silver team earned 185 points in the Non Tumbling division — just five points behind Meadowdale (190).

Skyline wasn’t the only local team competing in the state championships. Eastlake finished fifth out of 11 teams in the Medium division with 206 points. Kentwood Black won the classification with 226 points, and Marysville-Pilchuck narrowly edged Eastlake for fourth place with 208 points.

There were 49 teams competing in Saturday’s state championships from schools in classifications around the state.
