Skyline survived frigid temperatures, snow flurries and a long road trip to defeat Greater Spokane League Champion Mead, 27-17 Saturday afternoon.

The Spartans’ passing game wasn’t hindered as quarterback Max Browne came up with some big plays, including an 82-yard touchdown pass to Tagart Krueger. Browne (12-27, 222 yards) also hit Mason Gregory for a 19-yard TD and Jack Valencia for a 37-yard score.

Skyline got on the board first via Damien Green’s 2-yard TD run.

Mead countered with 26-yard TD pass and a safety to take a 9-7 lead after one quarter.

The Spartans answered with a 13-0 run, taking a 20-9 lead in the third quarter. The Panthers cut the deficit to 20-17, but Browne answered with his TD pass to Valencia.

Skyline (8-3) moves on to the quarterfinals where it will host Central Valley (9-2) of Spokane at 1 p.m., Saturday.
