The Skyline girls basketball team secured its first trip to the state tournament in four years and just the third in the program's history on Saturday, beating rival Issaquah 58-55 in overtime.

Morgan Farrar gave the Spartans the lead, 56-55, on a bank shot with 36 seconds remaining in the OT. Megan Wiedeman added a layup in the final seconds to secure the victory.

Senior guard Lindsey Nicholson led all scorers with 15 points. Michelle Bretl added 14 and Farrar had 9 — five of which came in the final minute of overtime.

Sabrina Norton and Maddey Pflaumer led the Eagles with 12 points apiece.

Skyline, which entered the KingCo 4A tournament as the No. 3 seed from the Crest, will face Woodinville, the No. 1 from the Crown, at 6:30 p.m., Friday for the league championship. Both teams are guaranteed trips to the 4A state tournament the following week.

Issaquah faces Garfield at 4:45 p.m., Tuesday in a loser-out game. The winner of that game will face either Eastlake or Inglemoor on Thursday in another loser-out game. The winner of Thursday’s game will then play the WesCo No. 3 team in a loser-out, winner-to-state game.

Woodinville fends off Eastlake comeback attempt

Eastlake gave its best effort at a comeback in Saturday night’s winner-to-state KingCo 4A contest, coming up shy to Woodinville, 61-56.

The Wolves, who trailed by as many as 12 points with 7 minutes remaining, cut their deficit to just three, 56-53, with under a minute to go. Eastlake a chance to tie with 27 seconds left, but the attempt came up short.

Kendra Morrison led the Wolves with 14 points. Lauren Files and Caleigh McCabe scored 13 apiece.

Melissa Gilkey led the Falcons with a game-high 20 points.

Woodinville secured a trip to state and a matchup with Skyline on Friday for the KingCo 4A championship. Eastlake plays Inglemoor in a loser-out game at 3 p.m., Tuesday. The winner of Tuesday’s game will play Issaquah or Garfield on Thursday in another loser-out game. The winner of that game will face the WesCo No. 3 team for a state tournament berth.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Eastside Catholic boys fall short to Chief Sealth

The third time was nearly a charm for Eastside Catholic on Saturday.

Instead, the Crusaders came up just shy, falling 44-42 to Chief Sealth in a loser-out Sea-King District 2 playoff game.

Eastside Catholic, which lost twice to the Seahawks this season by double digits, led 24-19 at halftime.

The Crusaders had a cold third quarter, however, scoring just four points. Chief Sealth eventually grabbed the lead in the fourth quarter and held on down the stretch.

Jake Springfield led Eastside with 15 points. Skyler White scored 12 and Joey Schreiber had 10.

Keon Lewis led the Seahawks with 15.

The Crusaders ended their season with a 10-14 record.

Chief Sealth (18-6) moved on to face Mercer Island in the double-elimination portion of the Sea-King tournament.
