Skyline, Issaquah dropped on diamond | Prep sports roundup

Skyline fell to Mercer Island in soccer and Mount Si in baseball while the Issaquah baseball team was dropped in its first game of the season.

Josh Lee gave the Islanders an early lead on an assist from Jordy Morris and Morris netted the deciding goal in the overtime period to give Mercer Island the win.

Kaleb Strawn scored the only goal for the Spartans in the 35th minute from Jason Twaddle.

Baseball

Mount Si 4 Skyline 2

The Spartans remain winless after falling to the defending 3A state champions behind five innings on the mound from Trevor Lane, who allowed no hits and struck out eight Skyline batters.

Matt Lunde and Clay Huber combined to go seven innings of four hit ball and allowed four runs, two earned. Matt Sinatro, Jim Sinatro and Brandon Fischer had the only three hits of the game for the Spartans while Gunner Buhner and Reece Karalus each scored a run and had an RBI for the Wildcats.

Kentridge 5 Issaquah 4

Issaquah trailed by five runs heading into the sixth inning and was unable to finish its comeback attempt in a 5-4 loss to Kentridge to open the season.

Brandon Mahovlich, Justin Vernia, Scott Boydston and Ryan Guiberson combined to allow 10 hits and our earned runs as Vernia took the loss.

Community

EC 8th grader named to national team

Eastside Catholic’s Harley Kirsch will join a team of the top seventh and eighth grade football players from around the nation or the U.S. Football Under-15 National Team program.

Kirsch, who helped his youth team to a division championship during the past season, will be on campus at the University of Texas-Austin for the International Development Week, which runs from Friday, Jun. 29 thru Thursday, Jul. 5.

Combine coming back to Eastside

Official Player Watch will be back in Redmond at the PRO Sports Club (9911 Willows Rd. #100) on Sunday, Apr. 22 beginning at 8 a.m. for a day of drills, tests and an opportunity to meet with visiting professional athletes.

Combine testing will include 40-yard dash, vertical and broad jump and bench press among others. Videographers will be present and a data booklet and DVD will be sent to colleges.

Cost is $90 for online pre-registration or $120 for walk-ups and the combine is open to students in grades 9-12.
