Skyline outlasts Issaquah in OT | Girls basketball

Skyline made a valiant push in its final regular-season game against rival Issaquah, but in the end the third-ranked Eagles were able to pull out a 62-55 overtime win.

With Issaquah up 22-14 at the half, Skyline erupted for 30 second-half points, sending the game into overtime tied 44-44.

Issaquah then exploded for 18 points in the 4-minute overtime period to nab the victory. Senior Domi Mendezona led the Eagles with 18 points. Maddey Pflaumer and Mackenzie Schiltz scored 13 and 11, respectively.

The Spartans were led by freshman Haley Smith’s game-high 19 points. Michelle Bretl added 14 points.

Issaquah ended the regular season with a 14-2 league record and 17-3 overall. They will have the No. 2 seed behind Woodinville headed into the KingCo 4A tournament.

Skyline dropped to 7-9 in league and 10-10 overall. They earned the eighth and final seed in the tournament and will face top-ranked Woodinville in Wednesday’s opening round.

Eastlake locks up playoff berth

Eastlake secured a KingCo playoff berth Friday night, beating rival Redmond 58-45.

The Wolves jumped out to a fast start over the Mustangs, taking a 19-7 lead in the first quarter.

Senior Alyssa Charlston had her second-highest scoring output of the season, tallying 23 points. Sophomore Kendra Morrison added 12 points and Annie Borges had six.

Eastlake improved to 8-8 in league and 12-8 overall with the victory. Redmond, which concluded the season at 6-10 in league, could have forced a three-team tiebreaker situation with a victory.

League officials are setting the playoff brackets later today. The KingCo 4A tournament begins Wednesday, Feb. 18.
