Skyline swimmers grab second in KingCo Championships

Skyline won six events at Saturday's KingCo 4A-3A Swimming Championships, only finishing behind Mercer Island in team points.

Skyline won six events at Saturday’s KingCo 4A-3A Swimming Championships, only finishing behind Mercer Island in team points.

The Spartans tallied 553 points, while the Islanders took the meet with 711 points.

Skyline claimed two relays, winning the 200 medley in a state-qualifying time of 1 minute, 52.55 seconds and the 400 free in another state-qualifying mark of 3:39.01. The 200 medley team consisted of Sarah Elderkin, Andi Scarcello, Stephanie Munoz and Katie Kinnear, while the 400 free team was made up of Maria Volodkevich, Yui Umezawa, Munoz and Kinnear.

Kinnear also won the 200 freestyle in a time of 1:54.90, Volodkevich took the 50 free in 24.68 seconds and Scarcello won the 100 breaststroke in 1:10.17.

Shanley Miller won the 200 individual medley in 2:11.46.

Issaquah finished fifth in the 19-team meet with 299 team points, while Eastlake was 11th with 186.

Up next is the District 2 meet. Prelims are held Friday at the University of Washington with the finals held Saturday at Juanita High School.
