Altchech hired as new basketball coach

Jeff Altchech, an assistant for recently-resigned Issaquah boys basketball coach Jeff Patrick, was hired as the new head coach earlier this week.

Altchech, 47, served as an assistant under Patrick from 1999-2003, before taking over as head coach at Bellevue for three years. As the head coach of the Wolverines he sported a 29-41 record. Altchech came back to assist Patrick from 2006-2008.

“I am very excited about the opportunity to take over at Issaquah and I am looking forward to working with an excellent group of players that we have coming back at the varsity level,” Altchech said. “I have had the pleasure to work closely with them for the last two years and they are hard working, competitive and solid guys.

Bennett officially named head coach

Chris Bennett, who carried the title of offensive coordinator last season, was officially named Issaquah’s head football coach earlier this week.

Bennett and defensive coordinator Rex Romer, led the Eagles to a 6-4 overall record and a trip to the first round of the class 3A state playoffs last season.

Local players take part in all star game

Six Issaquah and three Skyline baseball players were named to the 3A Senior State All Star team, which will play games against the best from class 4A at 4 and 7 p.m., Thursday, May 29 at Bannerwood Park in Bellevue.

Jacob Kemmerer, Mario Sanelli, Kyle Sutherland, Alex de Marne, Tyler Vanderboegh and Russell Bair will represent Issaquah. Eric Biege, Phil Tushar and Ryan Sapp will represent Skyline.
