Eastlake senior Kevin Penner won his second 4A state title Thursday afternoon — doing it in dramatic fashion at Canyon Lake Golf Course in Kennewick.

Penner, who led by three strokes after Wednesday, ended day two in a three-way tie with Snohomish teammates Dylan Stensland and Michael Jaeger at 1-under par 143. Penner shot a 4-under 68 on day one, and a 3-over 75 on Thursday. Stensland and Jaeger, shot 71-72–143 and 72-71–143, respectively.

Penner battled through the pressure, however, winning a playoff on hole No. 18 – a 370-yard, par 4 – for his second state title. He won his first as a sophomore and finished third as a junior.

Issaquah’s Derek Wilson and Kevin Moon also placed. Wilson, finished in 47th place, ending at 79-87–166, and Moon finished in 48th at 80-88–168.

Koehler ties for fifth

Eastside Catholic’s Kimmie Koehler tied for fifth place in the girls 3A tournament at Horn Rapids Golf Course in Richland, shooting a two-day total of 79-79–158. Katrina Hegge of Seattle Prep won the tournament with a 67-72–139.

Eastside’s Ashley Danforth ended in a tie for 21st place with a two-day total of 86-86–172.

Eastlake’s Emmie Schwartz finished in 41st place of the 4A tournament at Sun Willow’s Golf Course in Pasco with a 83-90–173.
