Three preps named All-Americans, middle schoolers win lacrosse tournament

Three players from the area were named prep All-Americans, and a team of middle school students took home a tournament title

U.S. Lacrosse has released its 2014 prep All-American squads, and a trio of local standouts were honored.

Eastside Catholic senior attack Ross Komenda and midfielder Colin MacIlvennie each earned All-American distinction, joining seven other Washington prep players on the squad.

On the girls side, Issaquah junior midfielder Suzy Emerson was named an All-American for the first time. She was the only underclassman among the eight Washington girls chosen.

Middle school team wins title

A team composed of local middle schoolers brought home the championship at the 2014 Cascade Cup lacrosse tournament recently in Snohomish.

Superstix Middle School Elite, which includes players from Issaquah and Eastside Catholic School, as well as other area cities, beat Seattle Starz U15 10-6 in the championship game.

Superstix took care of Puget Sound Select 10-9 in the first game of bracket play, after winning its pool with three victories by a combined score of 47-7.

The tournament field included 13 girls lacrosse teams from around the region.
