221st Place closure in Issaquah to begin Monday

Beginning Monday, a section of 221st Place Southeast will close between Southeast 60th Street and Southeast 62nd Street in Issaquah.

The closure, which is related to construction of the Southeast 62nd Street extension, will continue until late 2018. During construction, access will remain for all local businesses along 221st Place.

Project work will also close a portion of the south end of the East Lake Sammamish Trail. The closure will be from a quarter-mile south of Southeast 56th Street to just south of Southeast 62nd Street. The closure will affect the Pickering Trail, which is currently closed. Both trails are scheduled to reopen in early 2019.

There will be a pedestrian detour onto East Lake Sammamish Parkway Southeast, though due to the lack of bike lanes, it is not recommended for cyclists.

The entire 62nd Street project includes building a bridge, roundabouts and additional infrastructure. Construction started in mid-March and is expected to continue for at least 18 months.

A map of the street and trail closures related to the Southeast 62nd Street extenstion project is available through the city of Issaquah website. For more details, visit the city of Issaquah’s project page at www.ci.issaquah.wa.us/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=2880.
