A formal inquest was ordered in a September incident where Issaquah police shot and killed a Maple Valley man.

A formal inquest was ordered in a September incident where Issaquah police shot and killed a Maple Valley man.

Police say Ronald Williams Ficker, 51, pointed rifles menacingly toward pedestrians as he walked through downtown Issaquah Sept. 24.

He then got into a fire fight with five Issaquah officers at Clark Elementary School, where he fired at least 11 rounds at police.

The inquest, ordered by King County Executive Dow Constantine, is routine in police shooting incidents. The fact-finding hearing consists of a six-member jury.

The purpose is to provide transparency in law enforcement activities and to have established facts in the incident, according to a county press release.

The presiding judge has yet to establish a date for the for the proceedings.
