The Issaquah Community Network is seeking youth representatives for the 2014-2015 school year. The deadline for applications is Friday, June 20. Interviews with applicants will be conducted over the summer and representatives announced in late August.

The network operates within the Issaquah School District boundaries to reduce adverse childhood experiences and risky behaviors in youths between the ages of 12 and 20. The network has focused its work in recent years on youth suicide prevention, reducing youth substance abuse, reducing youth homelessness and other issues related to poverty and need, reducing school bullying and harassment, and reducing barriers to employment for youths with disabilities.

The network is the oversight body for the Drug Free Community Coalition, the recent recipient of a $125,000 federal grant, and BEST (Building Emotional Strength Together), a committee organized to prevent youth suicide.

Applicants should be 12 to 18-years-old and reside within the Issaquah School District boundaries. Private school and home-schooled students are welcome to apply.

In the email, they should explain why they would be interested in becoming involved with the network and what qualities they would bring to the organization.

Meetings are from 5:30-7 p.m. the first Monday of each month at the Hailstone Feedstore, 232 Front St. N., in downtown Issaquah.

Youth representatives are required to attend a minimum of four meetings during the school year, and may participate in additional sub-committee work.
