Issaquah councilwoman Maureen McCarry has been recognized for her service to Eastside Fire & Rescue.

Issaquah councilwoman Maureen McCarry has been recognized for her service to Eastside Fire & Rescue. McCarry was part of the eight-person board, as a representative on and off with EF&R since 2006.

She was honored at the agency’s monthly board meeting Thursday.

McCarry’s legal background and financial expertise has always been a strong point of her service, but she was also an advocate of fire prevention and public safety education.

“I can recall receiving an e-mail from her one afternoon after I sent out a press release on the Safe Steps – Fall Prevention Program,” said Josie Williams, Public Information/Education Officer for Eastside Fire & Rescue. “She thanked me for the implementation of a program that was meant to help the senior citizens of Issaquah live more independently and help them reduce the chances of a fall in their home.”

McCarry served on the EF&R board during a time when the agency was growing rapidly, and with the consolidation of several cities and fire districts, and she was also part of the team to re-write a new Inter-Local Agreement (ILA) in 2008.

Board chair Ron Pedee presented McCarry with a plaque from the agency for her hard work and dedication over the years to the citizens of Eastside Fire & Rescue. A gift basket was also presented to her by Union Local 2878.
