The city of Issaquah has announced it’s on flood watch amidst heavy weekend rain and rising water levels in Issaquah Creek.

The city’s Flood Warning System has placed Issaquah Creek at Phase 1, the first and lowest flood threshold in the system. Near Hobart, creek levels had risen to nearly 7 feet, according to the river gage.

Free sandbags have been offered to citizens who call 425-837-3470. A photo posted to the @cityofissaquah Twitter account (seen above) showed sandbags placed around a Northwest Dogwood Street property along the creek.

City spokespeople say there is no immediate threat, but that residents should establish a household flood strategy and keep an eye on weather forecasts.

The news wasn’t all bleak: The operators of the city Twitter account took the flooding as an opportunity to show off the benefits of the Issaquah Creek east fork restoration along Confluence Park. A video posted to the account showed the water flowing through the widened creek.
