Signs of the recession are hitting closer to home – Joe’s Sports, Outdoors and More will be shutting its doors for good.

Joe’s, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in early March, began its liquidation sale Friday, April 10 – one day after Gordon Brothers Group, the Boston-based liquidator that took over the chain, announced it would be closing.

The store at 1185 N.W. Gilman Blvd. has been open for 10 years, but will close as soon as all merchandise is gone, officials at Gordon Brothers said.

Markdowns of 10 to 30 percent have drawn large crowds to the store, including people from outside of Issaquah, who are hoping to find good deals in the store’s last few weeks of business.

Joe’s, which just celebrated its 57th anniversary, will be closing about 30 stores in total.

Joe’s employees declined to be interviewed.

Joe’s isn’t the first national retailer to shut down its Issaquah location – a Linens ‘N Things in Pickering Place, an Albertsons on East Lake Sammamish Parkway, and a Front Street Skippers all closed last year.
