Sammamish police stumble on heroin, pitbulls | Police blotter

A look at crime and criminals in the Issaquah/Sammamish area.

DRUGS & PITBULLS

Sammamish police responded to a call of a man overdosing on heroin Dec. 21, but were unable to enter the home in the 2500 block of Southeast 17th Street due to an aggressive pitbull standing on a bed near the man. The dog eventually lunged onto the porch, forcing officers to deploy taser darts into its back to protect a nearby firefighter. The dog retreated, and a 18-year-old female who made the emergency call was able to move the dog into a closet.

EMTs were able to fully revive the unresponsive 20-year-old man and bring him to the hospital for further treatment.

HIT & RUN

A Sammamish man called police the early morning of Dec. 21 after he heard a loud crash and witnessed a car drive off after hitting his son’s vehicle parked legally alongside the roadway in the Sahalee neighborhood.

The four-door sedan reportedly collided with the right front side of the parked car, then backed away and drove off. The man called neighborhood security, which locked down the nearest gate for a short time. No suspects were identified.

TOO YOUNG

A 17-year-old Issaquah boy was arrested for DUI shortly after midnight Dec. 21 after police responded to an accident on Eastlake Sammamish Parkway.

While police were interviewing the boy, who had collided with another 17-year-old, they identified the smell of intoxicants on his breath. The driver initially denied drinking, before agreeing to a breathalyzer test and blowing a .036.

The boy faces charges of a minor operating a vehicle after consuming alcohol.

SCAM ARTIST

A Sammamish woman called police Dec. 20 after discovering a man she met online and had been dating since May was involved in identity theft and check fraud.

The woman discovered the man opened a credit card account in her name after finding it in his bag. The man also attempted to fraudulently pass off a $21 check for $21,000 by washing it and adding zeroes.

The woman said the man made several outlandish claims about his personal life, including being a former sniper for the Army, working for the Pentagon and being in the running for head of the Seattle FBI office.

When police investigated the man, they discovered he had a long arrest history and had been convicted of fraud and identity theft in Tennessee.

MISSING JEWELS

A Sammamish woman called police Dec. 20 after discovering several valuable items missing from her jewelry box.

The woman said some items were left in the box, but several sets of earrings were missing, including a pair valued at $1,500.

The woman was suspicious of maids who worked for a cleaning service she used.

PLATE FOUND

A Sammamish couple discovered the license plate on the rear of their SUV was stolen after police showed up at their home Dec. 20 regarding a vehicle stop in Burien.

The couple had no idea the rear plate on their vehicle was missing and denied knowing anyone in Burien.

BROKEN WINDOW

A Sammamish business owner in the 200 block of 225th Avenue Northeast called police Dec. 13 to report a large rock thrown through one layer of her double pane window sometime overnight.

The woman reported finding a stone about the same size as a hacky sack underneath the window.

‘STUPID MOVE’

A 21-year-old Sammamish man was arrested Dec. 10 after attempting to allude police and blowing over the legal limit for blood alcohol.

Police clocked the man going 64 mph in a 45 mph zone south on Sahalee Way and immediately turned around to stop him. The driver disappeared into a neighborhood before police eventually found him parked in his vehicle alongside the road.

The man admitted to continuing to drive when the officer activated his lights, saying it was a “stupid move.” The driver blew a .100, admitting to having four beers before he drove home.
