Sammamish Rotary helps winter shelter for women

Recent donations from the Rotary Club of Sammamish and St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Medina have provided five state-of-the-art computers, printers and the latest computer operating systems for The Sophia Way day center for women in Bellevue.

Recent donations from the Rotary Club of Sammamish and St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Medina have provided five state-of-the-art computers, printers and the latest computer operating systems for The Sophia Way day center for women in Bellevue. The organization recently took over operation of the day center from the YWCA. The Sophia Way also operates a winter shelter for women, children and families and will extend that service until the end of May.

A recent benefit and auction raised more than $100,000 with funds going to help the homeless.

The day center serving up to 40 women each day, Monday through Friday. The program includes two hot meals, shower and laundry facilities, a comfortable place to rest, computer and phone access, and additional resources which include nursing and dental services.

The emergency winter shelter and day center are located at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 3030 Bellevue Way N.E., Bellevue.
