The rain didn’t stop the Sammamish Creekside Cub Scout Webelos Pack 225 from working on a drainage project at Soaring Eagle Park April 24.

These fourth graders from Creekside Elementary School, along with siblings, parents and King County Parks employees, walked the park’s trails, stopping regularly to carve out a little drainage path off the trail for water.

Prior to this work, the den walked the park’s trials as part of their Walkabout Adventure Merit badge, Michael Hoetzel said. This teaches the boys about their environment and to respect nature, he noted.

The four Webelos also learned how to properly carry shovels and the like and why it’s important to maintain the trails.

In the hour-and-a-half they worked, the den likely created about 30 drainage dips off the trail.

The Webelos worked toward their Walkabout Adventure Merit badges.

There are eight students in the den, though all could not make it out to Soaring Eagle for this Earth Day project.

Pack 225 is currently taking applications for the 2016-2017 year. Boys in first through fourth grades are welcome.

Those living in the Creekside area and interested in joining Pack 225 can email Pack225@outlook.com for more information.
