Schools foundation seeks donors, volunteers for Tools 4 School event

The Issaquah Schools Foundation is looking for donors and volunteers to help distribute school supplies to students in the Issaquah School District.

For the past four years, the Tools 4 School program has handed out backpacks stuffed to the brim with school supplies to children in the district. The amount of supplies given out reaches 1,000 per year.

For some perspective on that number, in November 2012 the district enrolled nearly 18,000 students — that’s more than one in 20 students who rely on donations to start the school year prepared.

“The Foundation is all about lowering barriers to academic achievement for every student in the Issaquah School District,” Executive Director Robin Callahan said in a recent press release. “Many of our students simply need basic supplies to achieve school success.”

The Foundation is looking for supplies, money and manpower:

  • Backpacks and school supplies can be delivered to the Issaquah Food and Clothing Bank on 179 First Avenue S.E.
  • Donations can be sent via www.isfdn.org or sent by check to P.O. Box 835.
  • Volunteers can sign up by contacting Tools 4 Schools Chair Krista Holmes at krista@isfdn.org.

The supplies will be handed out 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 22 at Eastridge Church. In addition to school supplies, students can have a complementary lunch, a haircut and a free dental screening.

Eastridge Church is located at 24205 S.E. Issaquah Fall City Road.

Tools 4 School is a program of the Issaquah Schools Foundation’s Healthy Youth Initiative.
