Volunteers build native gardens

More than 30 school students and residents braved uncertain skies on Saturday, as the City of Sammamish continued its efforts to plant more native plant species in the area.

The city helped fund a Washington Native Plant Stewardship Training program on the Eastside this year.

Six Sammamish locals took part in the training, and are returning the favor by volunteering 100 hours each to the city.

Those hours will be given in projects just like Saturday’s, educating people about native plant species and creating native gardens. Other volunteer events will be held on Nov. 7, from 2-4 p.m., and Nov. 21, between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.
